“to be”
I am here in the Dominican Republic and it is hot.
It is a little crazy right now as I am adjusting and getting settled in.
I am staying in the Amy’s house while they are on a little vacation in Florida.
I am trying to find my place in a place I know very well but do not know outside of the summer.
I am not sure yet where I am going to live yet. Due to some recent changes in the work here it looks likely that I am going to live out in the country instead of the city.
It is weird to know that this is now my full time job, and that I am here for longer than I am used to being here. I am not sure when it will hit me, but I am sure it will.
I am so excited and so ready to see all the things God has planned for me in this place.
“God, thank you. Thank you for getting here safe, and thank you for getting my luggage here even though it was a day later arriving than I was. I was very nervous and scared they day before I left but when I arrived and was actually here, I knew for sure that this was what you had called me to do. I love you every day.”
No estoy seguro dondo voy a vivir.

we care.
“we care”
Recently the We Care Ministries did a campaign at the Red Bank church. It was two uplifting and encouraging weeks of getting back to the most important part of our lives: The Gospel. Door knocking was never something that I thought I would enjoy or even be good at, not that my enjoyment is of any importance. Over thirty people obeyed the Gospel and h
ad their “ear pierced” as a committed follower of the Creator. There were some incredible stories and they were all of huge encouragement.
I Corinthians 15:3-4
I passed on to you what I received, of which this was most important: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day as the Scriptures say.
“God, I pray that all of these new Christians stay close to you and that they are accepted within the congregation at Red Bank. Thank you for the uplift while I am here in the United States and continued training on how to let you use me to win souls. I love you everyday.”
“we care”
I Corintios 15:3-4

the natural state.
“the natural state.”
For those of you that do not know the official nickname of Arkansas is “The Natural State”. Though it is not the coolest nickname, it is the place that I called home for four years. I loved my time at Harding University, but it was not the university, the city, nor the state that made it a very memorable four years. So before leaving for a while to the Dominican Republic, I took a little trip to the Natural State to see some people whom I love very much.
First stop: Searcy
I arrived in Searcy Thursday evening and stayed until early Saturday morning. It was a great two days spent with friends and doing the normal Searcy thing that I had gotten so accustomed to, including Charley’s Pizza and Mi Ranchito, and student center for lunch, and volleyball with good friends.
I spent my first night in the apartment with two of my roommates from last year and my second night with the new homeowner and Spring Sing freak and another old roommate.
I am so blessed.
To all of you in Searcy, Arkansas: I love you very much. Thank you for still
being in Searcy so that I could see you. Please do not forget that I love you and think about you a lot.
Last stop: Rogers/Springdale
I left Searcy early Saturday morning in order to get to Rogers, Arkansas to spend some time with two people who mean so much to me. I arrived at Brittney’s house around noon and got to spend the whole day with her and her fiancée, my old roommate. We had a lot of fun. I got to see Brittney’s classroom and me and Greg helped her to get some stuff done. We went to church the next morning then restauranted together at Cracker Barrel before I embarked upon the long journey back to Chattanooga and the “Volunteer State”.
We had a lot of fun in Rogers including two competitions of which both were won by Greg.
To Greg and Brittney: I love you so much. I miss you. I am so glad I got to spend some time with just you guys. You have been two constants in my life for a very long time and I could not think of anything better than two of my best friends getting married. Keep God in your relationship and do not let go of Him or each other. You know I am here for you!
“God, Friends are awesome. I am so blessed to be able to have so many. I am at a loss for words as to what to say about them and how much I love them and how badly I want and know that you keep them safe. I miss them so much, and seeing them is a great reminder of the many people I have in the United States that I am thinking about. I love them and want the very best for them. I love you everyday.”
A Greg y Brittney: Les amo mucho.

interns.
“interns”
Being an intern for MannaDR is a huge blessing.
On August 8th of this year I returned to the United States after my third summer of being an intern. Being an intern is an awesome job and I would recommend it to anyone. This summer was awesome in its own way, and very different than the other two summers. One of the best parts of the job is getting to know and working with the other interns.
This year’s interns were awesome. We had a terrific summer and learned so much together. They taught me a lot and I will never forget them. The interns were:
Hunter Main
Richard Parsons
Haley Lehman
Audrey Parker
Lindsey Bynum
and me
Thank you so much to every single one of you. You all taught me so much. I have you all in my prayers and miss you so much.
“God, the internships in the Dominican Republic have been a huge part of my life and been a part of a huge transformation in my life. I am so thankful to every person I have interned with and to all the Manna team that has helped us work together. I pray that all the interns from this summer learned as much as I did and that they grew deeper in their relationships with you. They are in my prayers and I pray that they continue to stay close to you. Keep them safe. I love you every day.”
Eran:

Audrey Parker
Lindsey Bynum
y yo
Muchas gracias a todo de ustedes. Uds. me enseñyaron mucho.

cultural safari.
“Cultural Safari”
One of the responsibilities I had this summer was the creation and execution of the Cultural Safari.
The Cultural Safari has been used with the groups for over a year now in Rio San Juan, but when I was there on Spring B
reak I was given the task of creating a new edition to the safari.
I really enjoyed making a game. I had different ideas but the one that won the day and was used all summer was inspired by the reality show “The Amazing Race”.
The idea was to mix in cultural questions with tasks to get the groups in the city and get to know the culture and people of Rio San Juan.
There were 4 tasks and 5 questions.
At the end of the race the group that won signed the safari banner and their time was recorded.
These are the times of the winning groups:
Park Plaza 47:03
Lake Cities 50:04
Southside 54:33
Northland Missions 47:33
Northside 49:05
Red Bank 48:10
Lake Jackson 44:47
Richfield 54:40
Congratulations to LAKE JACKSON for having the best time of the summer!
Oh, and thank you so much to the interns for helping me every week.
“God,
Thank you for the opportunity to make a game like this cultural safari. I pray that it was a blessing to you, to the Dominican people and to all the groups that participated. God we never know what you do through simple things like a game but we trust that you can do something miraculous and change eternity through our feeble attempts to do something great. I love you everyday.”

dad.
"Dad"
Red Bank sent a group here to the Dominican Republic this summer and I believe had a terrific trip. The joy and enthusiasm that they carried with them was unbelievable. But one very tough thing happened. My dad and sister came with the group and Dad got very sick. He was sick almost the entire week. One night I was woken up by Tommy Reese because Dad was throwing up so much that he was getting extremely dehydrated. At three o'clock in the morning Lisa, Tommy, Dad and I went to the hospital where he recieved an IV and went to myt apartment in Rio San Juan. He slept a little but never really got to feeling any better. We started looking for solutions. Really, we did not know what to do and just wanted him to be able to fly home the next day with the group. As Lisa and I were in town looking for some medicine and things to help him, we ran into Nobil, Freddy's son. (Freddy is a good friend in town and an owner of a local restaurant.) Nobil immediately jumps to help us and goes and gets advice from his father and then takes us to a local clinic. While at the clinic dad recieved two more IVs, some medicine for the nausea, some medicine for the stomach acid, and a medicine to kill a possible parasite. Time was running short and I was convinced that he would not be able to get on that plane. He eventually left the clinic and came back to the apartment and slept. Dad and I recieved help and encouragement from so many people while all this was going on. Here stands the list, with appologies for my forgetfulness:
Tim
Lisa
Rich
Audrey
Tommy
Jill
Beth
Lindsey
Yarisa
Nobil
Freddy
Lydia (the lady who lives downstairs)
Carmen
Mom
Nikki
and all the people who kept Dad in your prayers all week long
"Dear God, what a huge blessing to have so many people praying for you when you are sick and down. Red Bank's group was a huge blessing to me and to everyone here. I am gratefrul that Dad got to come, even though he was sick. Thank you for all the people who had us in their prayers. Thank you that Dad arrived home and I ask that you continue to be with him as he gets better. I love you Everyday!"
"Padre"

and all the people who kept Dad in your prayers all week long
"Dear God, what a huge blessing to have so many people praying for you when you are sick and down.
"Padre"

the death nut.
“The Death Nut”
A piece of advice: Do not eat things that you do not know what they might be.
With a group this summer we had gone on a typical day to Puerto Plata. We arrived at the hospital and we were standing beside this tree that had some kind of nut on it. It did not look bad, in fact it kind of looked like a chestnut, so a few of us (including Vicky, Hayley, Lindsey, and I) tried it. We said our prayer before going inside and Vicky came up to me and said “Is your throat burning?” and in fact, it was on fire. It ends up that this nut is not eatable and everyone felt quite nauseous. I did not have any unusual bathroom experiences but if you talk to the three girls they will question that I ever ate any of this ‘“death nut”.
“God, Thank you for funny experiences, but help me not to be stupid.”
